Nicholas • Melissa ~ The Wedding and Day After

So I know to many it seems as though it has taken me forever. In truth it has. Melissa and I were working frantically to find songs that were perfect for both, yes both, of the slideshows but I think we finally hit it out of the ballpark.

In any case, now unfolds the story of Nick and Melissa's wedding.

Almost exactly a year ago, I answered the phone to one of the sweetest most excited voices I've ever talked to. As I listened intently to the woman on the other end of the phone I grew more and more excited. You see, I was about to book MY first out of state wedding. (I had traveled with a great photographer friend to shoot many weddings but this one was mine!) Melissa had seen my work from Eve and Brad's wedding and didn't want anyone else to do her pictures. Let me just say that after a few more days of working out package details and such, I was doing the happy dance!

Over the next couple months I grew even more excited! Luckily for me April was fast approaching and I would soon be flying to D.C. to shoot Melissa and Nick's engagement portraits. What happened next was totally unexpected.
When I meet or speak with potential clients the one thing I always encourage them to do is pick the photographer that they are most comfortable with. One that makes them feel like a life long friend. When I finally met Melissa, my feelings of this were confirmed! It was as if we had grown up together. We just clicked! After the engagement shoot my friendship with Melissa continued to blossom and come January we were so close that I shed several tears throughout her wedding. I mean seriously.. we talk almost every other day!

So the Thursday before her wedding I flew up to Maryland and stayed that night at her families house helping her make sure she was packed and ready for the wedding festivities to start on Friday. We decorated church pews, filled welcome bags and took care of other last minute details on Friday. Then came the rehearsal dinner! I'm only posting a few of rehearsal dinner because this post is going to be never ending!

This first picture proved perfect practice for the ring bearer Ryan. He knew exactly what he was doing!

Then everyone headed to bed to get ready for the next day.

We started off in one of the VIP suites of the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina. While Melissa wrote her letter to Nick we got some of the details.

This picture is very fitting because Melissa is an aspiring photographer!

Then I got this sweet moment between Melissa and her mom. This is when I first shed tears...

See what I mean.. in his way he told us exactly what he would be doing at the wedding!!

Melissa and Nick,
Your love for each other is amazing. It's in the way you look at one another. It's deep down in the core of each of you. You two were meant to be together forever. That radiates not only from the pictures of the two of you, but from each of you individually as well. Word's will never describe what being your wedding photographer has meant to me. So, I will simply say THANK YOU and I love you both!

As I was searching through my photos trying to find the perfect picture for my iHeartFaces kids "joy" entry it hit me... I don't have to have the child with the biggest grin. Joy comes in all forms. The picture below is a little girl I photographed not to long ago. Her eyes lit up as she saw her mom walking towards her. It amazes me the unconditional love and joy our children show us just because we are near! I hope you enjoy this weeks "kids" entry!

Kaydence at the Triple Play

With a new year always comes new changes..and yes, I am still talking about things that are changing!! This year I have vowed to manage my time better and spend more time with my family. I don't want to look back years from now and be asking myself, "What if?"

As many of you of know I became so busy last year that I finally had to put Kaydence in daycare. It was a really hard decision but one that I felt we needed to make for a number of different reasons. This past year was such a learning experience for me and at times I felt so overwhelmed with Kaydence being so sick and the mounds of work I had piled to do.

I'm still playing a bit of catchup this month from my end of the year weddings but once I have caught up on these things, everthing will be a lot different. I have restructured everything and have made personal, realistic deadlines and goals for myself so that I may enjoy more time with my baby girl. She is growing way to fast and I don't want to miss a second. Of course, I can't forget my husband. I want to be able to enjoy spending evenings with him as well instead of glued to the computer trying to finish editing.

We hope to have Kaydence in daycare only part time and for this reason I have decided to join our local MOMS club! We had our first outing at the Triple play last Thursday so I grabbed my camera for a few quick shots. I have also set a goal for myself to take more pictures of her interacting and playing for my family and friends to see. So.. here she is at the Triple Play. I didn't bring my flash so I was shooting at a pretty high ISO but I love them!

Nothing melts my heart more than to walk into a client's home and see a beautiful cooing baby! It's been some time since I have had a newborn session and I was instantly flooded with memories of when my own not-so-baby girl was only five weeks old.

Haylee was very alert and happy to oblige me as soon as I asked something of her. You're probably wondering why on earth I would be asking an infant to do something! :) I'll explain.

At one point I asked her if she would curl her legs back up for me and wouldn't you know.. she did it?! Sarah, aka Mommy, and I just giggled as we savored every second of watching Haylee "perform" for the camera. (Yes.. I really do know that infants don't actually follow directions.. but humor me!)

Thank you, Sarah, for allowing me the opportunity to photograph your new, precious baby girl! I can't wait to see how much she has grown in a few months! Enjoy!

The Engagement ~ Tiffany • Robert

Tiffany and Robert will be married in March, so Sunday afternoon we headed out to Pensacola for their e-session.

Put simply these two are one of the nicest and sincere couples ever and we "clicked" as I love to do with all my couples. It also helps that they were completely natural in front of the camera... being totally in love tends to make that easy!

Good morning everyone! I was recently tagged by Kendra of Motif Design (she designed my logo!) and thought that would be a good way to start my morning. Then I can tackle my mounding to-do list! I have a busy day of editing, album design and then tonight I get to judge a pageant. I actually had flashbacks of my old days in pageants when I was asked. I had so much fun I thought I would give judging a try! I hope everyone has a wonderful, blessed weekend!

7 Random Facts About Me:

1. I was Miss Defuniak Springs (what a town name right?!) in 2002 and competed in the National PEANUT Festival that year.

2. I'm addicted to Chick-fil-A. I have strong desired to eat their mouth watering chicken-minis all day long. I've had to control my addiction with out lifestyle change though. I've been twice since before Christmas.

3. I, like Kendra, am an only child.

4. I'm horrible about printing pictures of and for my own family. I have 2 scrapbooks that I've done no scrapping in since before Kaydence was born.

5. I pray... a LOT! I probably couldn't count the times in a day that I say at least a small prayer about or for someone or something.

6. I LOVE chicken and dumplings! It's my favorite meal of all time!

7. I LOVE to cut my hair extremely short (chin length) but my hubby likes is longer so right now I'm holding back. Plus I really like how it looks right now.. it's an inner battle though when trying to decide whether or not I should cut it off!

Trying to think of RANDOM things about me was a little hard... but I did it.

Studio Sample Flush Mount Album

I'm so excited to show everyone my studio sample Flush Mount Album!! I've had it in since sometime in December but I've just now had the chance to put everything together to show it off.

I have so many out of state brides and there are times when they are not able to come down to meet and we do everything via phone. I've yet to find a description of these albums that does any type of justice for them. Put simpy, they are absolutely gorgeous!

Meet Alyssa

Jenni emailed me in September asking if I would take portraits of her little girl on the beach when she was home for Christmas. We set a date and time but as it approached I became increasingly worried about how cold it was going to be. I thought it might be a good idea to try somewhere other than the beach but Jenni really wanted to do the beach since they only get to visit the area these days. Of course I said several prayers and yet again God provided! Jenni's and her family were quite warm in the sweaters as it was in the high 60's and there was NO wind (seriously..NONE)! The sky was also perfectly overcast! Here are a few of my favorite shots of Alyssa. Jenni, it was wonderful meeting you and your family! Thank you for allowing me to take your family portraits!

2009 Goals

If you are anything like me.. you are now sitting here 11 days in to 2009 and are wondering, "WHERE ON EARTH DID 2008 GO?!"

I mean let's be serious for a second. Can time really pass by so quickly? Apparently so. This past year has been one of the most amazing years of my life. I'm still in awe at the blessings God has given me. I've met the most amazing people that gave me the opportunity to capture their weddings and portraits. I've become what I think of as friends with photographers around the country who blog as well and are willing to share their stories and be mentors for others. I have a wonderful family and the best, most supportive friends a girl could want.

Friday night was my oldest BFF Leslie's birthday. With a group of some old high school friends and some other friends I've made along the way we headed out to, "Live, laugh and love!" At the end of the night one of my "newer" friends, Mandy, asked me, "Did you ever think you would be where you are now?" You see, Mandy had me take portraits of her 2 week old newborn only a month after I started my business. My answer to her was, "Never in a million years!" I honestly would have laughed very hard if someone had tried to tell me I'd be were I am now.

That being said, I want to make 2009 even more amazing! As we all know, resolutions are made to be broken. So as with most everyone else I know and or blog stalk.. I've made goals. The week after Christmas I put a notebook beside my bed with a pen. I do most of my goal setting as I'm trying to fall asleep. What better way to remember them in the morning than by writing them down immediately!? At the top is says, "2009 Goals ~ In no particular order!"

You see, it doesn't matter what order they are in or accomplished. What matters is that I work hard to accomplish them. This list is made up of not only my business goals, but my personal goals as well. However, if I had to pick one as my #1 for 2009, it would be to spend more time as a family raising our beautiful daughter.

I learned so much this year about photography as a business. I'll be the first to admit.. it's A LOT harder than I ever thought it was. I learned that I'm not superwoman and it is ok to tell people no. Especially, if I'm sacrificing my already precious time with my family.

Time is precious.. and so are our lives. Jasmine Star had a contest a while back in which she asked us to describe our lives in exactly six words. I thought really hard on this. You see, all year I had been going non stop and couldn't figure out how to narrow that down to six words. That's when it hit me. I needed to slow down love and enjoy life. That alone created my life, as I intend to live it this year and in years to come, in six words, "Loving life in the slow lane!"

Words cannot express my gratitude to every amazing person that has touched my life. Thank you, without you I would not be the person I am today!

Our New Year's Eve was spent with Kaydence watching fire works and relaxing. As a matter of fact, we were blessed this year to spend our entire holiday season that way!

Wonderful White Christmas..

and no I'm not talking about the white stuff falling on the ground

around various parts of the country.

I'm talking about white all purpose flour and baking!!

I LOVE to bake. End of discussion. :)

Of course hubby thinks I am crazy because I will bake a whole pan of brownies and eat one. That leaves the rest for either him to eat or take to work.

He, 99.9% of the time, takes them to work.

However, this is the time of year that I bake most often. I mean.. who doesn't?!

Kaydence is finally old enough to start participating in various activities and somewhat understands what is going on. I would also like to start some family traditions that she can hopefully pass along to her children one day.

I was going to get a gingerbread house kit and then realized she would eat it before it was put together and opted for sugar cookies.

(Either way.. yes I am still crazy trying to do this with an almost 2 year old!)

Here are a few pictures from our baking session. It's the closest this family will come to a White Christmas without taking a vacation up north!

Please forgive the hair. I just threw it up in order to begin.. many years in the restaurant industry and I still can't wear it down while cooking or baking!

She did this all by herself with no encouragement from mommy or daddy!

This is after we laughed that she did it without encouragement.

Websites are hard work. Period.

Anyone who has one knows this.

Especially photographers. Yes, there are templates to make the designing easier or you can pay someone to do it, but that is not the hard part.

Combing through thousands and thousands of pictures is the hard part.
At least for me it is.

Then, there is writing about myself, taking pictures of myself and designing a logo for myself.

Oh, but wait?! I had lots of wonderful people helping me with those things!!!

So that being said, I have quite a bit of thanks and praise to dish out!

First, I must say thank you to my wonderful husband for his love and support. Not only that, but for sitting hours on end helping me choose the pictures that best showcase what my photography is about and helping (or in some cases just putting) everything together.
I don't know where I would be without him.. he is my rock!

Then, my husband, mom and Dane Sanders (Fast Track Photographer Book) for helping me write an About Me page that is true to myself. I want my clients to know who I am in order for them to feel comfortable with me during their wedding day or portrait session. I always stress how important it is for clients to be comfortable with their photographer! I hope that my new About Me gives everyone a better insight as to who I am!

To one of my best friends, Kricia Morris, for taking pictures of me that reflect my personality! I love to laugh and smile and she captured that perfectly for me share with others!

My former bride Kendra Fendt of Motif Design. She was the creative genius who took my thrown together idea of a logo and made it exactly what it is today. I love it! I think it reflects not only my business name but my personality as well and that is what branding is all about.
Finding what fits your personality!!

The most praise, however, goes to God. For without him I would be nothing.

Proverbs 3:5&6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths."

I would have nothing, not my family, friends or business if it were not for trusting God to lead me down the path he wanted me to take.

Every wedding that I photograph means the world to me.

Not only do I have the best career in the world, but I have the awesome opportunity to bond with the bride and groom as well as the guests at each wedding.

This wedding is a tiny bit different. You see, I already had a bond with the bride.

It started back in the summer before I started high school. We were cheerleaders (well, we would soon be cheerleaders).. and yes.. I admit.. I was a cheerleader. :)

Of course like we do with so many of our high school friends we grow apart and have to use Myspace to keep in touch. Even if we only live an hour away. Life tends to happen.

So when Jessica emailed me and asked me to shoot her wedding I was thrilled! It meant the world to me!

At one point during the day I turned and looked at her and said, "I have to tell you... if you had told me back in high school that one day I would be your wedding photographer I would have told you that you had lost your mind!"

As it is, God has a reason for everything and I'm so thankful that he has led me on this path in life!

Jessica and Tyrell, thank you for allowing me to photograph your awesome wedding!

I'm always nervous when I have never actually met my couples.

However, when Katie came in we started off as if we had been friends forever!

Like every bride, she wanted every last detail perfect..and it was!

Josh on the other hand really wanted nothing more than to see his beautiful bride.

Once he finally saw her, he could not keep his eyes off of her!

The ceremony was perfect and afterwards we headed outside for a fantastic night shoot!

A few weeks ago I headed out to Tallahassee to photograph Eric and Regina's beautiful wedding!

I knew from shooting their engagement session earlier this year that their wedding would be equally amazing.

I was right..

This wonderful couple can't get enough of each other and I must say watching Regina hold back tears before she walked down the aisle was such a touching moment.

At one point during the ceremony it was so bright outside Regina was having trouble looking at Eric to say her vows.

What did Eric do?!

He held his hand up to block the sun for her so that she could look into his eyes.

It was SO sweet and thoughtful... and completely melted my heart!

Yesterday's first try at taking pictures of Kaydence did not go as well as I hoped.

So a little bit later we brought Daddy out and what do you know.. we got some REALLY cute pictures... in my opinion at least!

Of course, I am her mom so I am biased.

Kids will be kids

As I am sure most moms would agree, getting your children to cooperate during picture time is extremely difficult.

It’s even worse when you have younger children.

But when you are a photographer, it's more difficult than ever! I've been procrastinating for weeks to take pictures of Kaydence to send out with our Christmas cards and I really can't wait any longer.

She wants to be in my lap or hugging me and that doesn't work very well when I am the one taking her pictures. Needless to say out of 50 shots I got one decent face shot and two really cute detail shots. That's all.

I might try again later if her mood improves.. oh well! She's still my little cutie!

Nothing really.. I'm just excited that Christmas is around the corner.. literally.

Although, I've done NO shopping.. None. Zip. Zero.

I'm MOST excited that having switching to a new doctor, we may be taking a turn in the right direction with Kaydence's health.

I ANXIOUSLY awaiting my new camera! Let me tell you, I'm not a patient person and of course it's in such high demand that I might not even have it before Christmas, although I am praying really hard!! I'll blog more about that when I get it and test it out!

I'm excited because I'm finishing up editing on my last few weddings and will be blogging them soon.

I'm SUPER excited about all the new changes coming to Leslie Roark Photography!

In today's wedding industry it is very important to network. I could go on and on about why it's so important but most wedding professionals know why.

A few weeks ago, Samantha of Samantha Jackson Weddings, hosted a wonderful meeting at 600 South in the New World Landing in Pensacola, FL.

There was a fantastic turnout with over 50 area vendors spanning from Destin to Perdido Key.

Caterers, photographers, calligraphy artists, an ice sculptor, wedding planners, DJs and cake makers alike attended!

No matter how many times I said so, you would NEVER believe how many times I laughed (and nearly cried) and Scott and Sarah's Wedding.

Scott and Sarah are two of the most laid back and friendly people I have ever met and I must say I have never had more fun at a wedding and with quite a funny story to tell below!

They were married at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church with the reception to follow at Hemingway's on Pensacola Beach.

Sarah insisted that I ride with the wedding party in the party bus to the reception. As we came over the bridge we saw an amazing sunset and I kindly insisted that the driver pull over at the toll booth. He was much obliged!

The cool breeze and beautiful starry night were like a dream!

And this is where my funny story comes in. It's not uncommon for guests to want to turn the camera on the photographer. After much harassment.. (joking of course) I usually give in because rarely do those pictures ever get seen by anyone other than myself! This particular time, I will especially, always remember! I'm notorious for showing the pictures to guests as soon as I take them. So when I pushed play and held up the picture for the groomsman on the left in the picture below to see.. he laughed so hard his drink spewed ALL over my camera!

In his defense he felt HORRIBLE and it did absolutely no harm.. but it sure gave us all a great laugh! Seriously.... I still laugh looking at that picture!

A Time for Thanks..

So often I get frustrated because my precious little girl, whom I love with all my heart and soul, stays SO sick. I am always behind on editing because she is home sick with me. I find myself easily irritated when she is whining and constantly wants to be in my lap. I mean I'm not kidding.. I get NOTHING accomplished.

At the end of October while in Virginia shooting a wedding with Jason Lanier Productions, Don, another photographer on the team gave me a different perspective to look at. As we sat at the table, I believe we were eating breakfast, one of the team members asked me if I was going to have more children. My response was.. "Are you kidding?! I'm so frustrated that Kaydence stays so sick I couldn't possibly want more children! I couldn't handle it!!"

That's when Don said something that nearly made me cry. His response was, "Instead of being upset and frustrated that she is sick all the time, maybe you should be thankful that God felt you could handle taking care of a special little girl with such high needs." I honestly said, "WOW! I've never even thought of that."

Don's sentence is so true. So often we dwell on the problems and frustrations that we have but we never stop to think that these problems and frustrations are teaching us valuable lessons and making us stronger individuals. I personally often forget that although Kaydence is sick all the time, there are plenty of couples that would give anything to be able to have even a sick child.

So this year, as I sit down to break bread with my husbands family, instead of being sad that I can't visit my mom and the rest of my family.. instead of being upset that Kaydence is already sick again, I will be thankful that at least I have them as a part of my life and thankful that God gave me such a great family and trusted me with a child as precious as Kaydence!

When Kim told me her wedding was at Rutherfords 465 I was SO excited!!

You see, Andy and I had a small intimate wedding ceremony in my hometown with plans to have our big ceremony a year later.

I planned for it to be at none other than Rutherfords 465!

However, God had other plans of our darling little girl being born 10 months to the day we got married! So the big ceremony never happened.

Instead, Kricia and I were able to celebrate Kim and Aaron's perfect wedding day at Rutherfords 465 and we had an awesome time. The ceremony was beautiful. The reception area was decorated perfectly with mulitple shades of my favorite color.. PINK and everyone had a great time dancing and celebrating!

I must say that I have been amazingly blessed this year to have the most down to earth and sweet couples imaginable. Drew and Jill are no exception!

I started the day with Jill getting ready and then after we arrived at the church we started with the guys pictures!

Drew and his groomsmen were definitely comfortable in front of the camera and even suggested a few pictures that they would like which is SO rare from the guys.

Jill and Drew decided to see each other before the wedding so we were able to get pre-ceremony photographs as well as after ceremony photographs!

All of my friends know that I am the sappy and emotional one of the group.

What can I say?? There are moments in life that just take my breath away.

I get these moments as I watch Kaydence grow from my little baby girl into a not so little girl.

It melts my heart to hear stories about how my couples met and I usually have these moments watching each of them say, "I do!"

I had my breath taken away at Mike and Mary's Wedding.

As a matter of fact, I cried! Not just a glistening tear.. I cried!

I'm not kidding!

These two have a faith to be envious of. Faith in God and faith in each other.

They waited until their wedding day to share their first kiss.

Mike and Mary, thank you not only for taking my breath away but for being such wonderful people and allowing me to share your wedding day with you!

Framing

So I have to admit... I am HORRIBLE about printing pictures of my own family and hanging them around my house.

Let alone client pictures that I would like to display.

I also need a bigger office!

Family Date Night!

A couple Friday's ago we decided to have a family date night!

We played Goofy Golf!!!

It was a ton of fun watching our baby girl march around the course as if she owned it!

I guess she is her mother's daughter! :)

My poor thing has had it ruff with her health since she turned a year old as many of my blog readers know.

Currently both lungs are inflamed and the left has the markings of the start of pneumonia.

So, it's great to see her in moments like these..happy, healthy and not care in the world!

Don't worry, she had a VERY STRONG antibiotic shot and has an oral antibiotic as well as medicine for breathing treatments if we feel it is necessary.

Family Portraits

So.. the last time we had family portraits taken was when Kaydence was three weeks old.

Well, that was until July!

I searched and searched for the perfect photographer to take our family portraits.

I have to be honest.. at first.. I wasn't sure about the actual "family pictures" but not at all because of the photographer.

You see, I'm the, "smile, work it for the camera" type. My husband is the, "I hate you for making me do this" type and Kaydence is the, "I don't care.. I do what I want type."

So after looking and studying these pictures really hard.. it hit me... they totally describe my family! This first being the perfect picture! You know. .the one that will soon be the 20x24 over my fireplace that is surrounded by those fun shots where you can see all our faces!

So yes.. I have to give a HUGE thank you to fellow photographer Heather Stewart for the WONDERFUL job! She truly captured us exactly the way we are!

The day after my friend Ceaton's funeral another (father-like) family friend passed away suddenly. Needless to say I've had enough death to last me at least a few years! I'm trying to catch up now! I apologize to all of my wonderful clients who are being so patient with me! Keep watch.. I'll have some pictures updates to post soon!

I also have a few busy months coming up! I had two weddings this past weekend, two coming up this weekend, and the following weekend I fly up for Brad and Katie's Wedding in Virginia! Then hits October and November with many more weddings! Stay tuned...

Reflect

Tonight.. I will get a bit personal. As I sit here at my computer, I can not help but reflect on the past and think about the future. You see, yesterday, one of my best high school friend's brother passed away. He had been fighting for his life since the 24th of August due to injuries from a motorcycle accident. If there is one thing that my small hometown community of Defuniak Springs is good for, it is coming together in the time of crisis and need with prayer. Ceaton had so many people praying for him to be a miracle. Unfortunately for us, God did have other plans for him.

In the morning, I will sit down with his sister, and help her pick pictures and prepare them to display at his funeral.

It takes me back to the end of May when I lost my grandmother.

Tears flow from my eyes as I write this. I just keep praying for peace. For I know if I lay all my sorrows in God's hands, He will take them away and replace them with peace. But even knowing that I argue with myself how to find a balance between life and death.

Another close friend said, "That's why I always tell you and all my friends how much I love you when I talk to you. You never know what will happen."

That being said, we can't live our lives afraid that something will happen but we also can't take it for granted. We have to find that balance of saying and doing the right thing today and now.. because there might not be a later or tomorrow.

Nonetheless, I look back on my life and although I've always known this, I am amazing blessed and very thankful! I've had a wonderful life full of people who love me and are always there for me. When I was making the decision to start my own business my family and my friends encouraged me more than 100%! I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful daughter and I've been blessed in my lifetime to have only lost one close family member. One whom I miss dearly. My Grandmother. I wear her diamond cross necklace around my neck everyday.. and I kiss it.. and I tell her I love her. Those where the last words I said to her.. I love you.. only hours before she passed away. That too is a blessing. I do not have to regret not saying or doing something that I should have.

So if you are reading this.. take a minute to reflect on your life. Look back and no matter what religious belief you have, take the time to be thankful for everyone and everything you have. Remember that there is always someone that has it worse, or is going through something worse.

I also ask that you say a prayer for Ceaton's family to find peace in this sorrowful time of their lives.

I'll leave you with a couple verses from the Bible that I'm repeating to myself daily.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap that which is planted. I have honestly had the most amazing families to take pictures of this summer! Winnie and Kristy came down with their families and yet again the weather was skeptical. (Imagine that in Florida!) About two hours before the shoot Winnie called to make sure we were still on after realizing that it was not raining! So they rushed to get ready and we headed out behind their condo on Pensacola Beach. The lighting was perfect and we had a blast taking pictures! I hope you enjoy!

I met up with Kim and her family recently to get pictures of her family in Destin. Her oldest son is getting ready to go off to college and she wanted to make sure she got a family picture before he went away. We had a blast out on the beach! I had to tease the guys a little bit. As with most guys, they don't really enjoy taking pictures and had a tendency to give me fake smiles. For those of you that have never noticed.. your forehead creases whenever you aren't smiling naturally and I called them out on it a few times. I think they had a pretty good time despite the camera being in their faces! :)

So this is actually a bit late. My birthday was actually Tuesday the 12th but things have been a bit crazy. I took Tuesday off but had appointments surrounding them. One get rained out and then last night, after I had taken Kay in for surgery to get ear tubes that morning, I had to cancel because I was at the ER. Yep.. that's right! I went to the doctor because I had horrible abdominal pain and pain in my right side. I thought I was getting another kidney infection. But, my primary care doctor thought I had appendicitis and sent me to the ER (it was 5 before I saw him). He wanted me to have a CT Scan. Well, that came back that I had ovarian cysts on my right ovary. He gave me some pain meds and sent me home with direct instructions to make on appointment first thing this morning with my OB for TODAY. So that freaked me out a bit.. for good reason. I have a ruptured cyst that is bleeding and causing much pain. I am supposed to stay in the bed for a week and if the pain is not gone I got back in to determine if its still bleeding (typically these thing heal themselves). If so.. I have to have surgery to stop the bleeding. So right now it's pooling around some of my organs. It will eventually be absorbed but the more I move around the worse the pain is. Yuck.. so my birthday plans of bowling tomorrow night are over. I have to stay in bed. I promise I will return emails and phone calls as soon as I'm feeling up to it. Thanks for understanding!

I have been taking pictures of Bowden since he was born! Man, does time every fly! I can't believe he is one already! He is SO precious and just the sweetest thing ever. I have to add that he climbs ladders very well.. I've seen it with my own eyes! I'm lucky that Kay doesn't have any around to attempt it. I'd have a heart attack! Anyway.. he LOVED his birthday cake! When Marcus called me and asked me to photograph his wedding I knew right away I was going to like this couple! I mean, it's really rare that the guy (no offense Marcus) takes care of the photography plans! I knew right away that Jill was very laid back and easy going and I had yet to speak with her! When their wedding day arrived I found out very quickly that I was right! These two were absolutely sincere and beautiful. They had a small elegant ceremony in Navarre Beach surrounded by a few close friends and family members. The sky was a perfect backdrop for their ceremony and pictures! Amber's Family

I have had the the honor to meet so many families since spring break! I have not had the chance to post many of them because it's been so busy. I've finally got a good rhythm going (I think!) to posting blogs more regularly. This is Amber's family. As you can see it was VERY overcast. About an hour before the shoot I was on the phone with Amber saying.. it's raining everywhere, we can reschedule if you want. ( I always leave that decision to my clients.) Amber said, "Well, every one is already dressed. Do you think you could come and if it rains we will try again?" Know what it's like to go through the process of getting children dressed for pictures I said, "Sure!" I'm about 5 minutes from the beach and it's still sprinkling and I think to myself, "We really are going to have to reschedule." BUT.. God was (as always) good! The pictures turned out great..even despite it being overcast!! I had a wonderful time with the girls as well. Amber was even able to catch a crab that washed up on shore for the girls to laugh at as she dangled it over my head.. eeek! Enjoy!!!!!!!

Baby E!

A very proud Mommy and Daddy welcomed Baby E into the world very recently! I did Mommy's maternity portraits a few months before he arrived. (No.. I did not blog them. I unfortunately probably will never be caught up on all the shoots/weddings that need to be blogged!). Anyway.. I was super excited when Rosie contacted me to let me know that Baby E was here and that she would like me to take his first portraits. I can not tell you just how great he did. Not only was he awake the ENTIRE 2 hours that I was there.. he never fussed or cried. Not even a whimper! He smiled at us about 5 times too! I know 10 day old babies don't normally smile but he even rolled over from his back to his side several times...so he did REALLY smile (at least I think so... but I am a mommy too!!) :) Mom and Dad surely have an advanced little guy on their hands. I hope you all enjoy!

I met up with Jessica and Nathan at Johnson Beach. Jessica had emailed me a few months back and like me, she and Nathan never had a "real" wedding. By real, I mean the big fancy dress with everyone we know invited for a huge celebration! They have been married almost a year and wanted photographs that captured this time of their lives. They were SO awesome. I think I might have asked them to kiss once.. the rest of the time they were all natural! The perfect couple for sure! Jessica and Nathan.. I hope you enjoy your sneak peak!!!

Peter and Julie were married on Navarre Beach. They had a gorgeous ceremony and a wonderful family. I have been so blessed with clients that truly make me feel as if I'm part of the family! So my favorite sis-in-law in the world let me do some maternity pictures for her. We weren't able to do this for the first one (he came into the world unexpectedly and WAY to soon)! So we wanted to make sure we got them for the second one! I loved them, she loved them.. so all is well!

I have always been a firm believer that for every life taken, one is given. Kaydence was born one year after a childhood friend was killed in a car accident. Now I get to welcome Baby Lakota! He is the newborn son of one of my best friends from high school! He had his first photoshoot at one day old in the hospital. Please keep him and his mommy and daddy in your prayers. His Daddy left today to be in Iraq for 6 months. The let him stay a week longer to see the birth of his first child, a son. Welcome Baby Lakota! You've had many family members and friends anxiously awaiting your arrival! We love you!

Congratulations Becca and Johny! I'm so happy for the two of you. You have a beautiful son!

This morning at 7 a.m. I got a telephone call from my dad letting me know that my grandmother was not doing well. Those close to me know that my grandmother has been in and out of the nursing home/hospital since February with some pretty critical health concerns. She almost died when she was first admitted. She got an infection from a procedure her doctor told her she "had" to have and it nearly killed her. Things have not been the same since. The doctors informed my grandfather that her organs and body were shutting down. It might be a couple days or it might be a week but they are at the point of keeping her "comfortable." Whatever that means.

I am working on two recent weddings as well as several shoots at this time. I am obviously going to be delayed as I would like to spend as much time with my grandmother as I can before she passes. If you email or call and I do not respond right away please understand that this is a very emotional time for me. I have never lost a family member before and I'm having a very hard time dealing with this. There is no "preparation" for death. My grandmother has always been one of my biggest supporters. She has loved me endlessly and loves Kaydence just as much if not more. I took her a recent picture of Kaydence this morning. I can't take her up there because she has been too sick and we have been told not to put her in environments that she might catch other things. The whole morning my grandmother would not put the picture out of her hand. Even when the nurse came in to move her and asked to hold the picture my grandmother told her NO! She was holding her picture and couldn't let it go. That just killed me. This is just killing me. I wanted to leave this with a picture of my her and Kaydence when Kaydence was only 3 weeks old. She would just sit there for hours with her. Please keep me and my family in your prayers to help us get through this trying time.

I have to be honest. I used to be vigilant about taking pictures of Kaydence once a week but since she turned a year old I honestly have not had time. My mom tells me all the time that I need to take pictures and send to her because she is so far away (Texas). She also buys Kaydence the most adorable outfits and RARELY sees her in them unless she comes to visit. So, I just got this outfit in the mail from her yesterday and I wanted to post them for her. I love you, Mom! Happy Mother's Day!
This one is funny to me.. and yes.. that is her finger on my lens!
Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

so doctors could do tests.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.

I'm not sure if I am going to have a chance to post this weekend so I wanted to go ahead and post now. Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful Mommy's!!! I hope that you have a great day. This picture (although technically speaking is not that great) I LOVE it!

It was taken today at the park. I never realized just how motherhood would affect me. As a sit here typing this, I am watching me beautiful girl try and feed her baby doll the remainder of her chicken and dumplings! She continuously melts my heart with just the simplest things. I can't begin to imagine the future when one day she will be a mom her self! Okay.. before I get too emotional.. I will leave you with a few quotes from a Mother's Day email I received today! Enjoy!

Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after having a baby. That Somebody doesn't know that once your a mother, you are never "normal!"

Somebody said that if you are a "good" mother, your child will turn out "good." That Somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee!

Somebody said a mothers can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books. That Somebody never had a child stuff beans up his/her nose and ears.. OR GET HER FINGER STUCK IN A SHOWER DRAIN AND HAVE TO TAKE AN AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL TO HAVE IT CUT OFF!! Literally!

So, on that note, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Erin & Dominic's Wedding

I was tagged yesterday by Jason Lanier, another photographer and also one of my greatest friends. Getting tagged means I have to answer a series of questions that let everyone know a little more about me. So here goes!

What was I doing ten years ago? Most of you are going to laugh at this but I was only 12 years old..starting my freshman year at Walton High School. Needless to say I didn't have many worries except which exam to study for!
5 things on my to do list today? Well I have a lot of catching up to do from last week when Kaydence got put in the hospital. I got pretty behind. So..I'm going to: finish Erin and Dominic's Wedding Pictures and slideshow. (I promise I am almost done!) Finish my portraits shoots from last week. Work on Kristen and Chris' wedding from this past weekend. Finish up my shoots from this week and last but not least I would really like to have some time to RELAX..even though it is doubtful!

Thank you everyone for your comments, thoughts and prayers! We were able to come home Friday night since Kaydence kept everything down that day. We found out later that night that she not only caught the rotavirus (thus the throwing up and dehydration that caused her to be hospitalized), but we also found out the cause of the other problems she has been having. For 7 weeks now she has had diarrhea that we had not been able to find a cause for. I was told it was possible that she had "toddler" diarrhea and it could last up to nine months. Basically there is no reason for toddle diarrhea. My motherly instinct told me that was wrong. Sure enough... I was right.

Kaydence has a bacterial infection in her intestines called C. Difficile. It is a very hard infection to get rid of and only 2 antibiotics are none to get rid of it. It sometimes takes several rounds and can be life threatening if left untreated long enough. She started the antibiotics today. Unfortunately since there is not normally a liquid form so it is extremely bitter and we really have to fight her to force it down her throat. She has to take it 4 times a day for 2 weeks. Please keep us in your prayers that this one round will get rid of it so that we don't have to keep torturing her. I feel so bad. Andy and I both tested a dab from the pudding we mixed it in and nearly vomited everywhere. It's that bad. I couldn't imagine a whole dose!

Andy then caught the rotavirus Friday night and was sick this whole weekend. Therefore I got absolutely no work done! I had a wedding Saturday night and luckily Andy only had two hours before Kaydence went to bed. Sunday I was taking care of both my sick babies! I luckily have still not caught it and hope that I don't!

Other than that, I want to thank all my clients for waiting so patiently for their pictures to go up online. I am working VERY hard to get caught back up before this weekend. Thanks again for your patience and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me!

I just wanted to give an update to those of you who might be waiting on pictures. I am now a bit behind because Kaydence was admitted to the hospital yesterday for some health issues she has been having as well as a new one..vomiting. So we are hoping to be home by tonight but we won't know until some of her tests come back. Please be patient with me. I really hate being behind but as most of you would agree.. family comes first. I will post later when I have more time. It's not anything life threatening that we know of but what's going on shouldn't be! you and I promise to get pictures up as soon as possible!

Some of which haven't seen her since she was just starting to crawl! They said they couldn't believe how grown she looked. She amazes me more and more everyday! She is most definitely my world!!!

D.C. Sunday Shoot- Brad and Katie

I had the privilege to photograph not one, but TWO couples while in D.C. I really had the time of my life and it's always nice to be able to meet with your couples before the wedding day! That way you know if you "mesh" well as I like to say and we totally do! We hit a few of the same areas that I had the day before and then went over to the Capitol for the end of the shoot. I remember making the comment to Katie and Brad that day that the two shoots that weekend were completely different and boy was I right! You can really tell that Katie and Brad would stay wrapped up in each others arms all the time if they could! We got along so well and I'm excited about their wedding in September!! Don't forget to take a look at their slideshow!

D.C Saturday Shoot- Nicholas and Melissa

I had and amazing time in Washington D.C. the weekend before last. I flew in Saturday morning at about 11 and by 12:30 I had already met up with Melissa and Nicholas. Melissa and I knew even before this trip that we were going to become fast friends and we were right! We started off in the city and visited almost every monument. It was the last weekend of the Cherry Blossom Festival so it was a little difficult to keep people out of the pictures!! Nick had said he was going to be the third wheel with Melissa and I but I think we managed to avoid all the "girly" stuff we could have talked about! We even made a friend who I now call Mr. Squirrel. It was so cute.. I just wish he had bread or something to give him. He would have come much closer than he did!After walking all around the city we decided to go to "The Old Town" in Alexandria. What an amazingly beautiful town that was! We got more great shots and ate at a Thai restaurant for lunch. The we went back to the hotel to freshen up before we went out for another shoot. I really wanted to get some shots with the monuments lit up behind them and they turned out great! There are a ton of pictures that I could post so here are just a few for the blog. Michelle and Roger- Pensacola, FL

Michelle and Roger were married on April 5th. I knew from shooting their engagement session a few months before that this couple had something very special! Their wedding definitely confirmed that! The are so full of energy and love..it just radiates from them. I honestly think they could make a couple married for 50 years jealous!! For those of you local to the area you know what Florida weather is like! The morning of their wedding it is pouring down rain! A few times I almost called Michelle to see how things were going but I decided that I would wait. If something wasn't going right I was pretty sure she would call me. When I arrived at the beach house it was only misting a little bit. They had decided earlier that morning to set up the ceremony inside the beach house. It was beautiful! Even though it was very overcast and cloudy, it stopped raining and we were able to take pictures out on the beach! As we went out for out a night session Michelle and I start talking about some photos I have in my portfolio of a couple in the water. She turns to Roger and says, "Let's do it!" Roger looks at her as if he can't believe she is serious and asks, "What about your dress?" To which Michelle replied, "I won't even wear it again!" So we got some great shots of the two of them in the very COLD ocean. It may be April but the ocean is still pretty cold. I have a ton of favorite shots of their wedding. Here are just a few. Washington D.C. Here I come!

I will be headed to D.C. early in the morning for two engagement shoots! I am so excited. I finally get to meet two of my brides face to face. I am so excited! Plus, I have never been to Washington D.C. and I am going during the Cherry Blossom Festival and I know that it is going to be an awesome experience!! On March 29, 2008 Ashley and Chris were married. They chose a beautiful church in Santa Rosa Beach and then the reception was held at The Lagoon at Seacrest. They traveled all the way from Georgia with almost 90 guests for the celebration! Can you believe that?! 90!! They are the sweetest couple and so are their families. I almost felt as if I was a family member! Thank you Chris and Ashley for choosing me as your wedding photographer!

My New Haircut!

I have been debating for weeks what to do with my hair and then I got the bright idea to maybe get bangs. I have not had them since I was probably 4 years old! I kept asking everyone's opinion and got mixed responses. Some said the longer side bangs and a few said the short feathery bangs. Well, I finally took the plunge and I couldn't be happier with the results!

So I really do prefer to post individual blogs for my sittings but since I am still behind I am combining again so that all of you do not have to try and catch up on several blogs at once.
I recently had a wonderful engagement shoot with Brandi and Tim. What a couple!! As much fun as we had doing their engagement shoot.. I know it's going to make for a really fun wedding!!

Now on to baby Chandler! My friend Alison called me to shoot his 6 month portraits and I am embarrassed to say that this is the first time I have seen him besides in pictures! Mine and Alison's schedules are just total opposites so it makes it a bit hard to get together. However, just take a look at the slideshow below. Chandler aka "Chas" is just the cutest little boy and is SO happy!!
